Mediation (Conciliation)

A couple engage the assistance of one or two impartial mediators who have no authority to make any decision for them, but who have certain skills to help them to resolve their issues by negotiated agreement.

Mediation does not aim to save the marriage, but to help parties deal by agreement rather than through the Courts with the consequences of its breakdown.

It should be noted that mediation is in essence an assisted form of negotiation, leaving responsibility for decision making in the hands of the parties.
